What Up With Healthcare?
What's up with Healthcare Dec 2022I am sorry, but some of you were having trouble sending me an email at info@bayshoreseniors.ca. Please take a look at the new email address.
Healthcare is in the news almost every day. Waiting times for emergency visits and surgical procedures have skyrocketed, many have no access to a family physician, healthcare staffing levels are critical, and there are limited home care services. Some call healthcare a crisis or collapse and call for innovative and fundamental changes! These issues and more are at the top of all Ontarian’s minds.
Dr. Rose Zacharias has been a family physician in our area for over 20 years. She is a parent of four children and is the current President of the Ontario Medical Association. She understands today’s challenges. During our 90 minutes together on December 14, Dr. Zacharias kindly agreed to discuss her viewpoint with the audience and answer questions from three local community leaders and others.
The format will be almost all questions and answers. If you have questions you would like to ask our guest, Dr. Rose Zacharias, please send them in advance to mcc_ourhealth@outlook.com.
We will be showing this at the Bay Shore Club on Wednesday, December 14th, at 7:30. If you plan on attending, email lorrijwatson@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Lorri
Table Tennis

Revised to reflect new email address; apparently, some or all couldn’t use info@bayshoreseniors.ca.
Table Tennis is cancelled at least until year-end due to a lack of attendance. If you would like to play in the New Year, email lorrijwatson@gmail.com. If we have enough interested members, we will start it up again.
Thank you,
Lorri

Update on Activities

Well, today, Tuesday, November 8th, is our last Gentle Yoga class for the season. Thank you, Sonia, for sharing your gentle techniques. I know those who attended enjoyed it immensely and benefited greatly from your class. We had so few this time, vs. the summer because the weather was so wonderful. I hope you will return in the new year and that attendance will improve over the winter months.
Renate and Klaus are back for table tennis Thursday, November 10th, @ noon.
VON Smart Exercise and VON Pole Walking at Elmvale Heritage Park will be cancelled for Remembrance Day, Friday, November 11th, and will be back the following Friday, November 18th, 2022.

Pickleball

PICKLEBALL – Mon & Wed @ 4:00 pm & Sun @ 2 pm
PICKLEBALL is Played on a court roughly one-third the size of a badminton court. Pickleball uses a low net, graphite paddles, and a lightweight plastic ball (all available at the Club). It combines elements of tennis, racquetball, badminton, and table tennis. The skill set is like many paddle or racket sports, and the learning curve is almost non-existent. You can get on a court and play even if you’ve never heard of the sport. As well as being easy to learn, the sport can be played at almost any age. (The USAPA National Championships has a category for men and women over 85, with the oldest player over 100). Pickleball is a great sport for all-around fitness. It exercises all the major muscle groups, provides a cardio workout, and improves dexterity, mobility, agility, and balance. Here’s a link to the sign-up sheet: https://signup.com/go/WSrioHS
If you have heard about this new game and have been curious, come out and see how it’s played. We have a great group of seniors who are friendly and more than willing to teach you how to get started. With this beautiful Indian summer, I know you would rather be outside, but it’s not going to last much longer, I hear. So, drop in, and give Pickleball a try. If you are doing more than watching, please go to the signup sheet so our pickle ballers know if they have enough people to play. We only need four (4).
Could you give us a try? It’s a lot of fun!
