Travel News

We are about a month away from the August 8th trip to the St. Jacobs market and off to see Kiss Me, Kate. Full payment will be required at the July general meeting this Tuesday, July 9th.
We also need at least ten more people to go on this trip. Our count has to be sent to the travel agency by Wednesday. So please make sure to see us and sign up. We hate to have to cancel another trip.
If you are thinking of going, please call one of us so your name is on the list, and we can have the forms ready for you.

Helmut Straeche

Dennis Vaillancourt has been visiting Helmut in the hospital for the past few weeks. He was taken in as he was having trouble swallowing.

Today, Dennis reported that he has a cancerous mass in his chest that is preventing him from swallowing solid food. He is on a liquid diet and expects to be so for the rest of his life. He will be receiving three sessions of radiation therapy this week and two more next week. He hopes to be able to go home once this treatment is complete. He assured me that he was not in pain. He is very upbeat and is content to ‘take it as it comes.’
Well, Helmut, we are so pleased to hear you are upbeat and taking everything in stride. We hope to see you back at Bay Shore playing billiards with the guys once your treatments are complete. We wish you the best of luck and hope you get well soon. A card from the pool guys has been sent to Helmut. Thank you,

Age Friendly Community Sr Expo

The Age-Friendly Community Expo for Seniors was a huge success, with a wealth of information. With 670 guests in attendance, it topped last year’s number.

Bay Shore has a number of potential members and great contacts. We were very pleased to be a part of this event and look forward to being there again next year. We saw a number of you who attended, thank you. Thank you, Peggy, Lina, Lynn and Lorri, for manning the booth.
Bay Shore, as Lorri calls it, is our “hidden treasure.” Until now, a number of people in the Wasaga area didn’t know we existed. We are not so much a “hidden treasure” as a soon-to-be-recognized seniors club in the community.

Chair Yoga

Our Sonia also teaches Yoga at Woodland Beach every Saturday in the summer from 9 to 10 a.m. for $15.00 each session. We’ve got ourselves a great teacher.

We didn’t get a great response to our Gentle Yoga. Sonia will speak to those who attend Chair Yoga tomorrow at 11:30 to see if you would like to do Chair Yoga for the next five weeks for $37.50. She will also incorporate Gentle Yoga poses for those who are further along.

Costumes for our Murder Mystery

Hi Members,

If anyone has a man’s coverall and an old-fashioned camera that you hang around your neck and wouldn’t mind lending to one of our members for our Murder Mystery next Thursday, it would be greatly appreciated. Please bring it to the Club before next Wednesday or email us at info@bayshoreseniors.ca, and we can pick it up.

Thank you for your anticipated response.

Shuffleboard’s end-of-season Luncheon

Dee and Gord Colton put on an excellent end-of-season luncheon Friday, June 14th, for their Shuffleboard group, to which Lynn and I were invited. They had it catered by Food Land, and the sandwiches, fruit, and cheese trays were excellent. A few of the activity members brought homemade desserts, and I finally got to taste not one but two of Helen’s delicious butter tarts with raisins. They, indeed, are scrumptious. Everything was terrific, along with the joy of spending time together before everyone took off for a safe and happy summer.

BBQ Fundraiser at Bay Shore

The correct month for the BBQ is Thursday, July 18th. I’m glad to see that a number of you read the newsletter.

Now’s the time to buy your tickets to our BBQ fundraiser. Drop into the Club during our new summer hours, or join us at the July 9th General Meeting and purchase your ticket for our Oktoberfest Sausage or Smoked Pork Chop dinner, roasted potatoes, cole slaw, Caesar salad, and sherbet for dessert.

If you cannot attend due to dietary restrictions, please let us know, and we will be happy to make arrangements so you can enjoy the BBQ, too.

We hope to take advantage of this beautiful weather and have our cocktails (yes, the Bar will be open) and games outside. Then, we will move inside for dinner.

The tickets are $25.00 each, and the time is 4:00 p.m.
Hope to see you for a fun-filled afternoon with your friends at Bay Shore.
