Another Great Event

Congratulations, Lynn; you did a tremendous job creating a great event. The centrepieces were very creative and adorable, Santas. You and your committee, Karen and Don Whitfield, Sue Millington, Helen and Greg Manion, Jean and Larry Steinhaus, Lina Bertucci, Lorri Watson, and Bill Brown, did a great job setting up and assisting in the event running smoothly. Peggy Hawthorn and Mary Bernardino did Share the Wealth, and Sharon and Greig Stewart were our greeters. And, of course, a big thank you to our bartenders: Norm McLaughlin, Sandy McLoughlin and Kim Keffer. Marilyn Lester, Sandy Baker, Bill Brown, Mary Hickey, and her husband, along with others, helped clean up. This is why the event was so successful, because of you, our volunteers. Thank you, and congratulations!
Santa (Norm McLaughlin) and his helpful Elf (Greg Manion) greeted our members with a Christmas picture with Santa. We will let you know when the photos have been uploaded to the Website. They should be great.
We have learned a lot, and our events are improving, from the Corn Roast to the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon to our Christmas Lunch. We have heard from several members how much they enjoyed themselves, and the turkey dinner with all the fixings was deliciously prepared by Nica and Chef Rick.
Our trifle challenge was a lot of fun. Greg Manion, Marily Lester and Lorri Watson were our taste testers. It was a tough decision; all the trifles were so delicious. However, we had to pick one. Two judges decided Trifle #3, so Sandy Baker won out of eight contestants. She won $25.00 cash and a badge made by the wood carvers that gave her bragging rights. Congratulations Sandy! Thank you to all our members who participated.
We found entertainment that our members enjoyed listening to Adrien Robitaille. He was a great musician, singer, and entertainer. A part of our luncheon was relaxing and listening to his music. And it was. With the ambience of the fireplace burning in the background, it felt like a friend’s Christmas lunch.
Marilyn Lester, Sandy Baker and Lorri Watson went into the Club Friday afternoon and spent some hours preparing the kitchen for our health inspection on Tuesday. The cleaners did a tremendous job cleaning the kitchen for another couple of hours. We are prepared. Thank you!
Thank you to Lynn and her elves Cindy Crane, Karen and Don Whitfield, Cheryl Uprichard, Sue Millington and Lina Bertucci for decorating the club to “look a lot like Christmas. It looks great!
Thank you; it was an excellent way to close down for the holidays with our friends from Bay Shore.
Merry Christmas and all the best in health, safety and happiness in 2024.
Cheers, Lorri
Shuffleboard + VON Exercise

I apologize for all the confusion. Rushing doesn’t help! Unfortunately, the Shuffleboard party has been cancelled due to Gord getting CoVid. However, Ed has agreed to convene. Therefore, there IS SHUFFLEBOARD ON FRIDAY.
VON EXERCISE will NOT be stopping through Christmas. They will be continuing right through the year.
Cheers, Lorri
Cancelling Thursday Activities

Volunteers for Christmas Decorating; +, and +

Remember last week we got together to thank you for how much you have been doing for us as a volunteer? Well, I need you to pull together and come in and help us decorate for Christmas. Unfortunately, we had to cancel last Tuesday due to our 1st snowstorm.
We would appreciate your assistance if you are available Saturday, December 2nd at 10:00 a.m.
MEMBERS COSTUMES – HALLOWEEN GAMES AFTERNOON:

Go to our website, www.bayshoreseniors.ca and follow the picture above. Go to Activities – Lifestyle – Monthly Get Together. When you land on that page, scroll down to Halloween Games and Afternoon Social. Click on the “link.” You’ll be able to see all our Halloween participants’ costumes. The afternoon was a lot of fun.
CONVENORS:
Well, it’s getting to that time when we will close for Christmas. Please provide me with the date you will take a break between Christmas and New Year’s. I am allowing Pickleball and VON exercises to continue through this time frame. We will reconvene 1st week of January, so let me know when you will return in the New Year.

Wasn’t that a party!
Our events are bringing more members out!

I believe all our volunteers who attended the Appreciation Luncheon last Thursday had as good a time as we had. I thought the speech was great! Cheers!
Greg and Helen think I’m a “superwoman- how could she remember that!” A new caterer, Nonna, catered the food. The lasagna was delicious. Members said, “Best lasagna I’ve had in a long time.” We will try her again.
AND… the Volunteer of the Year award winner goes to Sue Millington. Congratulations! (Cheers)
Our Lifetime Achievement award goes to four (4) members this year: Faye Walker, John Crossley, Geraldine Hamill, aka Jerri, and Etelka Nagy, aka Chirpy! Congratulations on quite an Achievement! (Cheers)
We had fun with Team Helen & Sheila vs Team Lina & Marg as contestants fighting it out to see who would be the winners of Bay Shore Jeopardy. The game ended in the best way possible: a tie game, as declared by Carol, our scorekeeper. Thank you for being good sports and playing along. (Cheers)
Thank you to our executives, Lina, Karen Lynn, and myself, along with Don; the afternoon’s setup, preparation, and commencement ran smoothly. Caroline and Kim assisted us in cleaning up. Thank you! (Cheers)
Thanks to Norm, Kim, and Sandy M for stocking the bar and looking after all the complimentary wine, beer, water, and pop requests. Best cheerful Servers ever !!!
And Lynn, thank you for making the afternoon fun with your creative ideas. I believe they bring the members closer together. (Cheers)
Thank you for your volunteer work.
Even though you’re not in the spotlight, you are the backbone of every event.
We are forever thankful for the time you have given us. You have made an unforgettable difference.
(Cheers) – You had to be there!
Tiny’s Winter 2024 Recreation Guide

Tiny Connect is introducing its 2024 Winter Recreation Guide. Experience what Tiny has in store as we enter the festive season. They have a Tree Lighting ceremony on November 28th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Perkinsfield Park to kick things off.
To receive a guide, you can either go to https://www.tiny.ca/recreation-community/programs-registration, scroll down to where it says “Winter Programs (January to March 2024) to download the guide, or drop into the Club and pick up your copy. They are going quickly, so I wouldn’t wait too long if you are interested in a hard copy.

Door Locks

Unfortunately, none of our members have come up with either key for the back kitchen. I will, therefore, be replacing the two door locks soon. We have put Scott Towels out in the washrooms to dry your hands, etc.
Thank you,
Lorri
This and That and Other Things
FLUFFER FOR CHRISTMAS TREE:
Hey members, we have our “woman on the ladder” and her elves, but now we need a “fluffer”. Someone great at sprucing up an artificial Christmas Tree. I think that means putting the decorations on, etc. Please show us your Christmas Spirit and support our decorators on November 28th at 10:00 a.m. Email info@bayshoreseniors.ca or call the Club at 705-361-1331. Thank you.
CRIBBAGE:
Okay, members! We have about half our membership interested in playing Cribbage. The only problem is that no one is interested in Convening. All you have to do is open the Club, take attendance, get the members $2.00, set up tables, put the Crib boards out and select a day and time to play. I know other members will be willing to help you once you get going. I am certain someone will volunteer to take on this weekly commitment. Give me a shout at info@bayshoreseniors.ca or call 705-361-1331.
UP OFF THE GROUND: Judy Cabell
Caid Thompson runs this organization in Perkinsfield to support the homeless. He is looking for donations of sleeping bags and winter coats. If you have any winter items to donate, you can bring them to the Club and drop them off when you come to the Volunteer Luncheon, or you can deliver yourself to 177 Balm Beach Road West, Tiny.
We will accept clothes from November 27th through to November 30th. Please DO NOT bring anything before our VOLUNTEER LUNCHEON or after the 30th. Thank you!
CRAFTS:
Looking for that special item for Christmas for that someone who has everything, or you don’t know what to buy? Drop into the Club. There is a lovely display of items that our Crafters have made for sale in the Lounge.
ACCESS ART SIGN:
We now have an Access Art Sign that Mary Hickey from Wood Carving made. It makes the wall look so professionally done with the compilation of beautiful Art pieces.
LIBRARY:
June and Renate are looking for donations of books published after 2005. They have also received a donation of four boxes of large print books from the Elmvale Library and one box of audiobooks. Drop into our library and check them out.
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON:
We look forward to seeing those who have bought tickets for the luncheon on Thursday, November 23rd, at 12:30 p.m. When you arrive, you will receive a complimentary ticket for a wine, beer, or pop. We will announce our new Life Time Members and Volunteer of the Year. I’m sorry you missed getting a ticket. The cut-off was Friday.

We have scheduled our Christmas Luncheon for 12:00 NOON for you, the members. The luncheon is on Thursday, December 14th. Doors open 11:30 for a cocktail or chat; lunch will be served at NOON. We are serving Turkey dinner with all the fixings prepared by Nica. We have a special guest entertaining us, Adrian Robitaille, playing various Christmas and rock tunes on his guitar. If you haven’t got your ticket, now is the time. We won’t be having another General Meeting before the lunch. Drop in any Tuesday through Friday from noon until 3:00 p.m.The cut-off is December 6th.
Due to the rise in COVID, we ask that you wear a mask when you pick up your food ONLY (all other times, you can remove it). This way, those members who are vulnerable can attend, and we don’t cough, sneeze, etc on the food. If you don’t wish to wear a mask, we will serve you after our masked members have been. Thank you,
Lorri
Our New Flag Flying at Half Mass

Thanks, Don, for replacing the old flag. I know you got roped into installing it, by myself (who is so grateful), but I knew you were in good hands with Sandy’s previous experience and guidance.
They installed the new flag, which was raised to half mass to Honour our Veterans on Remembrance Day, Saturday, November 11th. They then went back later in the night and raised it full mass.
MISSING KEYS
We seem to be missing the two sets of keys just outside the kitchen where the white cupboards are. If anyone knows what happened to them, maybe they got put in your pocket by mistake. Could you please check as the cupboards have all our kitchen supplies?
Thank you,
Lorri
