Updates and Revisions

Woodcarving: (Revision to date of time change)

Please note the time change for Woodcarving will start on Friday, October 13th,  not immediately from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 USCO Monthly Newsletter “The VOICE”

As United Senior Citizens of Ontario members, we receive their monthly newsletter. In the September issue of “The Voice,” they discuss Seniors’ Scams and Frauds, Influenza Season, and Virtual Health Card Renewal. If you want to read an issue, ask Lynn or myself for a copy. We will also leave a copy for your perusal at the front desk.

 Blue Table Runners

About eight blue table runners were made last year. We now have three (3) left. If anyone knows where they might be or has taken them home to wash and forgotten to return, please bring them back to the Club. Thank you.

William (Bill) Pearce

Bill Pearce passed away last May 19, 2023. We didn’t know until his wife renewed her membership for only one person. He was very close to receiving Lifetime Membership. We, at Bayshore send our condolences out to his family.

Last call for Membership. If we have not received your membership renewal of $25.00 for 2023/24 year by Friday, September 29th, your membership will be terminated. Thank you.

Shuffleboard

Now that we are back in the Club after a beautiful summer of flip-flops, etc., we must return to a secure shoe, i.e., running shoe type. Something that won’t slip off or that you won’t trip in as per our liability insurance. Thank you!

Recording Secretary

We are pleased and excited to have Karen Whitfield join our Executive Board as our new Recording Secretary. Thank you, Karen!

SEPTEMBER GENERAL MEETING
Our next general meeting is September 12th at 2:00 p.m. I promise it will be a much shorter meeting than last month. Thank you to those members who attended last month’s AGM. We did achieve our quorum.

Nominations

We still have two positions to fill, so please attend the general meeting so we can wrap up this year’s process and swear in the new Executive. Hope to see you Tuesday.

Your Nomination Committee.

Travel News

It’s hard to believe we are entering the last few weeks of summer, and next Wednesday, September 13th, we are off for the Trip to Niagara Falls and the Tunnel tour!

We ask that you arrive at your pick-up point 15 min before departure and check in to get your seat number.

Bay Shore departure time: 8:00 am                                Elmvale departure time: 8:15 am

Also, as a reminder, please bring a light jacket, as the tunnel will be cooler than the surface temperature and your walking shoes. Also, a small umbrella as the weather forecast for that day shows showers are possible.  We will have some water on the bus but ask that you bring your own.

If you have any questions, give one of us a call!  We hope you have a wonderful time, and thank you for supporting your club and the travel committee!

Membership

Sandy will have a table at the general meeting to collect membership. If you plan on renewing, get it in this month. It will save the committee from having to call over 100 members. Your membership will be terminated if we don’t have your renewal by September 29th. Thank you!

Second Open House

Thank you to all our convenors. Everyone stepped up. It just goes to show how much our Club means to you. We didn’t have much foot traffic, but we got a good number of new members.

We had our ladies from Lifestyle and Travel in the lounge, which gave them ample room to talk to prospective members.

VON, Darts, Billiards, Garden, Pickleball, Shuffleboard, Mini Putt, and Bingo were all represented.

Lynn looked after the membership booth, as Sandy was busy with Mini Putt and Bingo. Lynn obtained over 16 memberships promoting the club, with a few coming in over the next week. The last time we did an Open House, we received 11. Congrats Lynn!

Patricia (Judy’s daughter) put over 500 pictures on a USB drive. Dennis burned them onto a DVD so we could get them to display on both TVs. Terry had great music streaming through our speakers for a friendly environment.

Katy helped make the afternoon animated, showing what our Line Dancing was all about with a couple of good sports, Helen G. and Lorri, dancing along with her. We even got some prospective members to join us. Thank you, Katy, and a massive hug to Helen G. Helen M. was lucky she was on holiday. I tried to drag her along as well. Bruce also did a couple of renditions of songs the Choir was working on—lots of fun.

Woodcarving, Arts, Crafts, Book Club and Billiards were in the back half of the building but got lots of exposure as well. The craft room looked terrific, with several new and old members’ carvings. Crafts sold a few things as well.

Thanks to our bartenders, Norm McLaughlin and Sandy McLoughlin. Not only do you make great drinks, but you are also great conversationalists.

Thanks to my comrades Judy, Sue, and Lynn for helping me pull the event together from beginning to end. Once again, thank you to our fabulous convenors for making our visitors feel important. I think I saw some people sit and learn how to play Bid-Euchre. And a few took a swing at the mini putt floorboard and darts.

I am very happy and pleased to see everyone pull together to make our afternoon successful!

Mix and Mingle Open House

Hello, Members. I’m sure you have heard that we are having a Mix and Mingle Open House on Thursday, August 31st, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

If you haven’t, we are opening the Club for new members to drop in and see what we are all about. We have been advertising in the Springwater News and Wasaga/Stayner Sun.

Our Convenors are meeting on Thursday at 11:30 to set up each activity. You may want to call your convenor and see if they need you to give them a hand.

Please drop in and support your Club; it should be fun.

Thank you,

Lorri

CD/DVD Burner

Remember in the olden days when we could burn a CD? Well, it doesn’t seem to be as simple as that anymore.

Does anyone have something to burn a DVD to make copies for us from our DVD of pictures?  If so, could we borrow it, or could you burn a disk for us?

Thank you

Lorri

Great News from Your Travel Committee!

Good news for all those who have signed up for the trip we are Going!!!! If you are interested, we still have a couple of seats available.

For anyone who has yet to pay the last of the amount owing, Marilyn and I will be at the Club this Thursday August 24th, from 10 am until 12 pm.

We only wanted to deposit cheques if enough people signed up, as it is easier to return the original cheque than to write a cheque for each person/couple. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Do not forget to bring a fleecy or jacket for the Tunnel and your walking shoes.
