Celebration of Life

We also had a very successful Celebration of Life for Heather Umlah on Wednesday, August 16th. We had over 100 guests. Heather was a very loved and cared-for woman who will be missed by many.

Thank you to our volunteers, Lynn Davis, Judy Cabell, Patricia Cabell, Kim Keffer and Lorri, for becoming very creative in how the coffee/tea was served. Creativity and change is always a good thing.

I know Donna was very pleased with the outcome.

What a Terrific Corn Roast

Thank you so much to all the volunteers: Greg & Helen Manion, Don & Karen Whitfield, Terry & Sue Millington, Bill Brown, Fred & Lucy Worch, Carolyn Shelswell, Russ & Pauline Blanchard, Marlene Miller, Lidia Trimble, Bev Grant, Judy Cabell, Judy Wagner, Jim Richie, Marilyn Lester, Sandy Baker, Cathy McDonald, Lynn Davis, Mary Bernardino and Gord Colton who helped make our Corn Roast a success. And thank you to our bartenders, Norm McLaughlin & Kim Keffer. I apologize if I have forgotten anyone.

Lynn’s photo booth was a big success as well; she got a lot of great pictures and good participation.

Also, thank you to everyone who came yesterday for all the delicious desserts; what an incredible variety.

Thanks again,

Peggy Hawthorn and Dee (Dianne) Colton

And I would like to thank Dee and Peggy, our Co-Chairs, for organizing such a successful event.

August Annual General Meeting

AUGUST ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Tuesday, August 8th, at 2:00 pm
Please join us to

VOTE ON THE CONSTITUTION

Let’s try to put these Constitutional changes to bed once and for all. We’ve been working on making changes since 2018.

Our Constitution Committee has prepared a ballot sheet and has recruited three scrutineers to help make the voting process run smoothly.

We require 50 members to attend our August Annual General Meeting to have a quorum to vote on the changes. Please don’t think other members will attend so we won’t miss you! We will! We need YOU there on Tuesday, August 8th to vote!

As you heard in an Eblast from the Election/Nomination Committee, the Executive Board has now lost our Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer.  Not only is it imperative for the Club to get a Recording Secretary to continue, but we must also find a Treasurer.

To encourage members to take on the Treasurer position, thought has been given to contract a bookkeeper to be hands-on with financial records and keep reports. The Treasurer is only responsible for paying bills and bank deposits.

Suppose you are reluctant about the position of Recording Secretary because you don’t have good computer skills. Then, you can write them out, and the office will type them up.

The Executive hopes these changes will help you take a leap of faith, stand up, and be elected to either of these positions. Let’s keep Bay Shore Seniors alive and well.

Sandy and her Membership Committee will set up a table in the craft room to take membership renewals or applications. The fee is $25.00 unless you are a new applicant and need to get a badge.

Travel will also be there, trying to sell off their last few seats.

And Corn Roast $5.00 refundable tickets will also be on sale to purchase.

The Executive Board looks forward to treating you to a delicious sundae at the end of the meeting.

See you Tuesday!

Fun Day Bowling

Look at that form. Yes, our young Bill played a great game on our first afternoon of bowling in Springwater Lanes.

We had eight people: Bill, Lidia, Lorraine, Peggy, Sandy, Klaus, Lynn and me. Sandy and Bill were high scores for the day, and I had the lowest, but I had a great time. They told me I would be sore tomorrow; I was already sore today! I can’t wait until tomorrow. 🙁

Come on out and join us any Thursday in August at 1:00 p.m. at the Springwater Lanes in Elmvale.

Message from the Nominations Committee

A Message from the Nomination Committee

Due to personal circumstances, the Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer positions are now vacant, along with Second Vice President and Recording Secretary. The club is desperately seeking members to step up and fill these positions.

Should these positions not be filled at next week’s general meeting, the doors will be closed until members step up. That means all committee heads that hold keys will have to turn them in, and all activities will be halted. That includes the Kids Bingo, Adult Bingo, the corn roast, and the trip in September. Also, any beach association or family function that may have booked the hall will be cancelled.

This is YOUR Club, do you really wish to say goodbye? There have to be a couple of members willing to step up and save the Club by volunteering for any of the above positions.

Please consider putting your name forward and contacting one of the committee members ASAP to help keep Bay Shore operating.

SPRINGWATER LANES, in ELMVALE

This Thursday, August 3rd, at 12:30 pm, is Bay Shores’ bowling league’s first meet and play summer bowling at Springwater Lanes Bowling Centre, 120 Yonge Street North, Elmvale. The cost is $12.00 per person and $1.25 to rent shoes. We will be playing two frames on each lane. There will be four (4) teams of 3 players each if everyone who showed interest is playing. Of course, if you haven’t let us know, you are always welcome to join us.

I hope I’m up for the challenge. My 1st time bowling (yikes)! If you aren’t doing anything, drop in on us Thursday afternoon and check out the lanes.

There’s Still Seats Available

Hello Members,

Your travel committee has been very thankful for the help we have received from some of your fellow members who have reached out to family, friends, and other clubs in the area, and we have added a few more names to the Tunnel trip.

However, we are still in need of another ten people to reach our minimum number for the trip to go.

There is still time for anyone to sign up, and as always, we will be at the Annual General Meeting on August 8th in the craft room to collect payments. We really would hate to have to cancel another trip.

We hope to see you there!

BBQ was a BIG SUCCESS

The food was delicious, thanks to Bill and Terry and our runner, Gord!

BIG THANK YOU to Lynn Davis and her BBQ committee for putting on this evening. Thank you, Karen and Don Whitfield, Bill Brown, Lidia Trimble, Gord Colton, Sue & Terry Millington (for providing great music over the speakers), Sandy and Char Baker for ordering and picking up our pies. Thank you, Dee, for looking after our Share the Wealth with your assistant Peggy Hawthorn. Thank you, Marg Robertson, for doing Grace. Our Bartenders, Sandy McLoughlin and Norm McLaughlin, for making those special drinks. Thanks to Sheila and Daphne for taking our tickets for the draws. George Hales won the big draw – two tickets to the Fall Wasaga Murder Mystery Night and Dinner, donated by Judy Plowright. Congratulations.

There is one person, in particular, I want to give recognition to, and that’s Elaine Willison. Elaine came to work in the kitchen, worked through supper and helped clean up. She didn’t buy a ticket, and when offered supper, she said, “I only came to help.” I don’t believe she ate. You worked very hard, wish you had taken a meal. Next time!       Elaine, thank you, that’s called support and dedication to your Club.

When you think about last year’s BBQ, we had 34 members help. For this BBQ, the committee had 11 very dedicated volunteers. It feels to me something more is happening than a “Changing of the Guard.” We had 67 people last year; we only had 40, of which five were my family. We thank our 40 members for braving the tornado warnings and joining us for a beautiful evening.

It looks as if we made $477 profit. For comparison, last year our profit with 67 people was $495.

Do you have any comments or concerns you would like to share to add to the success of this event?
